Completed General Assembly's Software Engineering Immersive program in August of 2020. I built apps using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js, Python, and MongoDB.
I'm a proud urban educator and Teach For America alumni. During my time as an educator I learned to work under pressure, collaborate with teams with strict deadlines, and efficiently backwards plans.
I worked part-time for an educational tech startup, STRUT. I wrote curriculum and designed the UX/UI experience for students using Figma.
I accepted my TFA offer to teach early childhood education in Chicago. During my time I was able to teach children to write their names, key literacy and math skills, and support families.
I continued teaching in NYC and then back in Chicago. My data continously grew stronger. My first year with 2nd grade taking a state test showed one and half years worth of academic growth. This was no small task and took much effort as they were well below grade level when they began the year. This was in part due to tech in the classroom to track data, improve small groups, and increase engagement.
After hearing about my passion for the benifits of tech in the classroom, a friend suggested I do a coding bootcamp. He worked with many from bootcamps. After completing Teach For America's rigorous training I knew a coding bootcamp is something I could accomplish successfully as well.
As a way of exploring tech careers I joined STRUT Learning, an EdTech Startup. I wrote curriculum and then switched to design UX/UI for the app using my experience as an educator. Being apart of the sofware development life cycle made me eager to learn the software side.
With work being remote and no plans for the summer I jumped at the opportunityt to complete a coding bootcamp. I had a veteran instructor who led us through all the skills I now use to build apps. I had the chance to do pair programming, collobrate with UX/UI designers, and practice Github flow with a team.
